SPECIAL CITY COUNCIL MEETING

REDISTRICTING WORKSHOP

TRANSPORTATION CENTER

FRIDAY JANUARY 21, 2022 @ 1:00 P.M.

 

Notice is hereby given that a special meeting of the Jefferson City Council will be held on Friday January 21, 2022 at 1:00 PM at the Transportation Center at 305 E. Austin Street, Jefferson, Texas, at which time the subjects to be considered or upon which any formal action may be taken are as listed below.  Items do not have to be taken in the order shown on the meeting notice.  Unless removed from the consent agenda, items identified with the consent agenda will be acted on at one time.

  4. WELCOME GUESTS AND VISITORS

Public Comments – Limited to citizens and business owners of the City of Jefferson, must sign up in advance on the list and must limit to 3 minutes conversation.  Jefferson City Council may ask questions but shall not discuss items that are not on the agenda.  On a subject that is not on the agenda a person may add an item to a future City Council Agenda by contacting City Hall a minimum of 5 days prior to a regular City Council Meeting

 

  1. REDISTRICTING WORKSHOP AND ACTION ITEMS:

a.  Receive information from Allison, Bass & Magee, LLP, a law firm retained to provide legal guidance on the process of redistricting of existing political boundaries;

b.  Consider and/or approve possible action on the revision of existing political boundaries to address any unconstitutional imbalance of existing boundaries in excess of a total maximum deviation of 10%.

c.  Consider and/or approve possible alternative boundaries to reduce any imbalance among the existing political districts, wards or precincts to a legally suitable level and to address the voting rights of all residents of the jurisdiction.

d.  Consider and/or approve selecting one or more alternative plans for presentation in the public hearing, date to be determined.

e.  Consider and/or approve future dates for public hearings to receive public comment on any plan or alternative plans for the redistricting of political boundaries, including a date for the possible adoption of a redistricting plan.

Polk Street, a place readily accessible to the general public at all times, on this 18th day of January, 2022, at 9:00 a.m. and remained to posted for at least 72 continuous hours preceding the scheduled time of said meeting.
